Siri Amrita was born in Trinidad, in the West Indies. She has been a Seeker for as long as she can recall and investigated several different religious and spiritual paths/types of yoga before coming ‘home’ to Kundalini Yoga In 1991. Even as a beginning student, her teacher told her that she had a destiny to both live the teachings and share them unselfishly with others. This resonated as Truth for her and obeying that Soul Calling, she began to teach in 1992. In 2012, she began to do so at The Center in Harrisonburg, anchoring the path in our city. She has taught numerous KY classes, day and weekend retreats, as well as led 4 intimate-group International KY Retreats (India and Nepal 2016; Guatemala 2017, Morocco 2018 and Greece 2019). She loves Kundalini Yoga for its basis in personal experience rather than abstract belief, for its multiplicity of health benefits and for its ability to heal on all levels when practiced consistently.

Siri Amrita has been married since 2000 to her hubby John and makes her living as a dentist in her practice in Harrisonburg, where she is known as ‘Dr. Purnima Shahani’. She is an avid gardener, an amateur artist in several media, loves words and authored and self-published a small book of poetry entitled ‘The Fragrance of You’ in 2018.
